Considerable interest was shown by participants at the GB smart customer response trials workshop on 25 May 2011 in learning more about the recently completed Irish smart meter trials and the resulting learning from the trials. The trials in Ireland have been complimented for both their quality and the results that indicate it is possible to move peak system demand using a combination of technology, price signal and customer engagement. Those implementing smart grid trials in GB and others developing customer response propositions would benefit from gaining an in depth understanding of all aspects of the trials, such as how participants were chosen, ensuring academic and statistical rigour, maintaining independence of administration and other points of similarity and difference between the Irish trials and experience in the UK. This will be particularly timely given the recent publication of the results of the EDRP trials.
GE kindly agreed to host a workshop at which those responsible for delivering the Irish trials shared their experience with attendees. The presentations are below.
