About our Network Technology Trials
Traditionally, network operators dealt have with new loads on the powergrid by reinforcing the network. The Customer-Led Network Revolution project explored a range of smarter alternatives which sought to get the most out of existing assets and defer or avoid the need for costly reinforcement.
We trialled a range of network technologies, both singularly and in combination with customer demand side response, under the control of a sophisticated active network management system deployed for the project called the Grand Unified Scheme (GUS). The learning is proactively being shared with all UK network operators as collectively we strive to push forward the development of a smarter powergrid.
Grand Unified Scheme
A sophisticated active network management control system that was developed and deployed for the CLNR project.
Real Time Thermal Ratings
Using RTTR to monitor and assess the real-time capability of overhead lines, transformers and underground cables
Electrical Energy Storage
Assessing the value of electrical energy storage for local electricity networks
Network Monitoring
Monitoring at strategic points on the Northern Powergrid network, to gain an unprecedented view of what is happening on the network
EAVC
Trialling EAVC at primary and secondary substations.
